On Sunday mornings we have been looking at what Jesus is saying to His church. What amazes me is how seven letters written over two thousand years ago to specific churches in Asia Minor, what we know today as Turkey, are as relevant today as they were way back then. The church is still dealing with losing it’s first love, persecution, apathy, being dead and walking in victory. I hope you’ve been enjoying this journey as much as I have. This Sunday we will looking at the church in Sardis. A church that was dealing with being spiritually dead and apathetic. It was also dealing with sexual sin just as Thyatira was. These are all issues we must be willing to battle in our own churches and our own lives on a daily basis. I’ve heard it said that the world is like a magnet. Unless you are forcefully moving away from it’s magnetic draw you are being pulled into it. Fortunately we have a more powerful force that lives within us. The power of the Holy Spirit. As we draw near to Jesus through a consistent life of devotion to Him the Holy Spirit moves us away from the power of the world’s pull and even from the power of our own flesh. There is freedom and victory in the Jesus life but we must want that freedom more than the false freedom that our sinful flesh promises.
What areas of your life is the Holy Spirit asking you to surrender to Him? I promise you it is for your good to release those things that only lead to bondage. It was for freedom that Christ came to set you free. Paul puts it this way in Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. There is no greater freedom than freedom in Christ. Be free my brothers and sisters! Be free!!
